This has been one crazy year! I feel so fortunate to have worked with two incredible artists such as Beth and Cristina. The knowledge I have gained from them I will carry with me throughout the rest of my life and career. Parts of my experience seem almost like a dream. That may be due to the extreme lack of sleep I endured during my time in Washington, but that misty quality to the memories make them all the more precious and surreal. Almost like Alice slipping down the rabbit hole...
Now that I have emerged on the other side of Wonderland, I find myself engaged to marry my best friend, working as a studio assistant to an artist I greatly respect and admire, while also working in a studio space in downtown Boone as a member of the Nth Gallery. I am so very grateful for all of these amazing opportunities and people in my life. Sometimes I'm not sure if I really have made it out of the rabbit hole yet.
I am currently working on a new series of work addressing women's issues in relationship to the American Food Industry. While I was working with Beth, I adopted a vegetarian diet and have maintained it since my return to North Carolina. As I continue to read and develop more research, I find myself embracing a more raw and vegan diet. The horrors that these poor creatures endure from life to death is incredibly disturbing to me. I believe I am on the verge of something that will add great strength to my work. Here is a sneak peek to the series.
Any kind of feedback would be greatly appreciated! Happy New Year to everyone!
